History and Progress
Formed by resolve of the Constitutional Convention of 1776, Montgomery County officially came into being on September 6, 1776 (effective October 1, 1776). Since then, it has grown into a thriving community with a bright future. Our commitment to progress is reflected in everything we do, from our fiscal policies to our community programs. Under the leadership of County Executive Marc Elrich, we’re building a Montgomery County that works for everyone.
